Temporary signals to be installed at US 51/Hoepker Road intersection
October 3, 2008
Planned reconstruction detailed at public information meeting Oct. 8
Temporary traffic signals will be installed at US 51 and Hoepker Road on Madison’s northeast side in advance of the intersection’s upcoming reconstruction, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Southwest Region office. The temporary signals are expected to be operational this fall.
The planned intersection reconstruction, including new turn lanes, safety medians and signals, will be completed within two years.
The intersection improvements will be discussed at a public information meeting Wednesday, October 8, 2008. The meeting will be held from 5 -8 p.m. at the Burke Town Hall, 5365 Reiner Road.
A brief presentation is scheduled for 6 p.m. A variety of exhibits and maps will be featured at the information meeting and representatives from WisDOT will be available to discuss the project and answer questions. The public is encouraged to attend to examine the proposed improvements and discuss any concerns they might have.
In 2007 WisDOT applied for and received federal Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) funds to reconstruct the intersection at a cost of $1.5 million. The reconstruction is currently scheduled for 2010.
Persons who are unable to attend on October 8, 2008 can contribute comments about the project by contacting WisDOT Project Manager, Bill Strobel at 2101 Wright Street, Madison, WI 53704-2583, (608) 246-5622, william.strobel@dot.state.wi.us.
