January 15, 2009
Meeting to focus on preliminary designs for reconstruction of north Tower Avenue
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northwest Region in Superior is announcing a public information meeting to discuss preliminary design concepts for the reconstruction of WIS 35 from Belknap Street to North 3rd Street (Tower Avenue, city of Superior). The meeting is scheduled from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009 at the WisDOT Northwest Region office, 1701 North 4th Street in Superior.
The proposed project will reconstruct WIS 35 just north of Belknap Street extending northward on Tower Avenue to the vicinity of the intersection of North 3rd Street to improve traffic flow and safety for motorists and pedestrians. WisDOT is in the preliminary design phase with various concepts being considered for the reconstruction, including areas of parking, sidewalk, street lighting and the reconstruction of side streets. The project also includes the installation of a new storm sewer system to improve the aging combined storm/sanitary sewer lines. Construction is tentatively scheduled for 2013.
The public is encouraged to attend the meeting, provide input and ask questions concerning this project. Maps showing the proposed improvement alternatives will be on display. WisDOT and city of Superior representatives will be available to discuss the project on an individual basis.
