Meeting to focus on final design for WIS 26 to Witzel Avenue segment
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) NE Region in Green Bay is announcing a public information meeting to obtain comment on final plans for reconstructing US 41 and its interchanges from WIS 26 to Witzel Avenue in Winnebago County. The project begins about one mile south of WIS 26 and extends to Witzel Avenue. The open house meeting is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Mar. 5, 2009 at the Winnebago County Highway Department, 901 West County Road Y, Oshkosh. There will be a brief presentation at 5:15 p.m.
Proposed improvements include:
- Expanding US 41 from four to six lanes (widening will occur in the existing freeway median).
- Adding an additional left turn lane and crash investigation sites on the exit ramps at WIS 44 along with minor concrete repair along WIS 44.
- Reconstructing the County K overpass bridge to provide proper clearances for US 41 and add sidewalk across the bridge.
- Reconstructing the 9th Avenue interchange by lengthening the on- and off-ramps and widening the bridges over US 41 to provide proper clearances. Roundabouts will be constructed to replace signalized intersections at the US 41 ramp terminals, the Washburn Street intersection west of US 41, and at the Koeller Street intersection east of US 41.
The public is encouraged to attend the meeting, to provide input and ask questions concerning this project. Maps showing the improvements will be on display. WisDOT representatives will be available to discuss the project and real estate staff will be present to answer questions regarding the department’s real estate process.
