March 9, 2009
Meeting to focus on preliminary designs
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Southeast Region in Waukesha is announcing a public information meeting to discuss preliminary design concepts for the resurfacing/reconstruction of Washington Street (WIS 33) from US 41 to County Z in Washington County. The meeting is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Mar. 19, 2009, at West Bend Town Hall/Community Center, 6355 County Trunk Z, West Bend.
The proposed project will include:
- Resurfacing the existing pavement from US 41 to approximately one-half mile west of WIS 144.
- Reconstruction of the existing roadway from one-half mile west of WIS 144 to County Z.
- All beam guards within the resurfacing segment will be evaluated and replaced, if necessary.
- The bypass lane at the Walters Drive intersection will be improved and the intersections of US 41 northbound ramps/WIS 33 and WIS 144/WIS 33 will be converted to either signalized or roundabout intersections.
- The three-lane undivided segment of WIS 33 between WIS 144 and County Z will be converted to a 4-lane divided segment with a 30-foot median.
- Storm sewer will be added wherever necessary.
Right-of-way acquisition is anticipated within the reconstruction segment and at the Walters Drive/WIS 33 and US 41 northbound ramps/WIS 33 intersections. Final design will begin in early 2009 with construction scheduled for the summer of 2012.
The public is encouraged to attend the meeting, provide input, and ask questions concerning this project. Maps showing the proposed improvement alternatives will be on display. WisDOT representatives will be available to discuss the project on an individual basis.
