Girders will have little impact on traffic
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region in Green Bay is announcing the initial delivery of bridge girders for the College Avenue Bridge is scheduled for Thursday, Apr. 2 and Friday, Apr. 3.
Trucks carrying the girders from Green Bay will begin arriving in the Appleton area sometime during the morning and continue arriving throughout the day on both days. They will be met by law enforcement at the WIS 96 off ramp and escorted to the bridge. The girders will move from US 41 east on WIS 96 (Wisconsin Avenue); south on Lawe Street; to College Avenue.
Six girders are set to arrive on Thursday and five on Friday. More girders are scheduled to arrive later in April. A total of 110 girders will eventually be used in constructing the bridge.
WisDOT is replacing the College Avenue Bridge and approaches. The project, estimated at $16.1 million, began in August 2008 and is expected to be completed by November 2009. College Avenue is currently closed from Rankin Street to John Street/Walter Avenue.
