Waupaca road improvements to begin week of Apr. 20

April 6, 2009

WisDOT conducting public information meeting Apr. 15

As part of his “Grow Wisconsin” initiative to invest in Wisconsin’s infrastructure and stimulate our state’s economy, Governor Jim Doyle signed a $1.4 million contract to improve approximately two miles of Churchill Street and Royalton Street (old WIS 22/54) in the city of Waupaca. Construction is scheduled to begin the week of Apr. 20, 2009.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is conducting a public information meeting on Apr. 15 at the City of Waupaca Public Library, 107 South Main Street, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The meeting will follow an informal open house format. A brief presentation is scheduled to begin at 5:45 p.m. WisDOT representatives will be available to discuss the project and address any questions or concerns.

American Asphalt of Mosinee is the prime contractor. Improvements include:

  • Resurfacing Royalton Street - between Wendt Drive and Churchill Street.
  • Resurfacing Churchill Street - between Evans Street and Park Avenue.
  • Reconstruction of the intersection of Royalton Street and Churchill Street.
  • Installation of three-way stop signs at the intersection of Royalton Street and Churchill Street.

Construction is scheduled for completion by August 2009.

Churchill Street - at the intersection of Royalton Street - will be closed for approximately 30 days beginning in June. During the closure, traffic will be detoured via local streets. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction on Royalton Street for the duration of the project. Motorists can expect to encounter daytime flagging operations.

One hundred percent of the project will be paid with state transportation funds.
