Governor Jim Doyle approves US 51 improvements in Oneida County

April 21, 2009

As part of his “Grow Wisconsin” initiative to invest in Wisconsin’s infrastructure and stimulate our state’s economy, Governor Jim Doyle recently signed a $788,000 contract to improve 5.1 miles of US 51 from Hazelhurst to Minocqua in Oneida County.

Construction is scheduled to begin on May 4, 2009.

Northeast Asphalt, Inc. is the prime contractor for the project. Improvements include repaving the highway, upgrading beam guard, and repairing a culvert pipe.

Construction is scheduled for completion in mid-June 2009.

During construction, crews will reduce the highway to one lane in each direction from Monday mornings to Fridays at noon.

80 percent of the project will be paid with federal transportation funds; the remaining 20 percent will be paid with state transportation funds.
