Public meetings set May 19 - 20 for US 51 Stoughton to McFarland in Dane County
April 23, 2009
Meeting to focus on the latest alternatives for improving safety and mobility
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Southwest Region will hold two public information meetings to discuss the latest alternatives for improving safety and mobility on the US 51 between Stoughton and McFarland as part of a corridor study. The meetings are scheduled for:
- Tuesday, May 19, Sandhill Middle School Gymnasium, 1920 Lincoln Avenue, Stoughton.
- Wednesday, May 20, McFarland High School Cafeteria, 5101 Farwell Avenue, McFarland.
Each meeting will have an informal open house format beginning at 4:30 p.m. and ending at 8 p.m., with a brief formal presentation at 6 p.m. Both meetings will present the same content.
The study is examining various alternatives to address safety and traffic concerns along US 51 corridor. Possible alternatives include a 4-lane expansion of US 51 between Stoughton and McFarland, a 4-lane expansion of WIS 138 between Stoughton and Oregon, and a 4-lane expansion of County N between Stoughton and Interstate 39/90. WisDOT is also looking at the 4-lane expansion of County B east, Skaalen Road, and Pleasant Hill Road as part of each of these alternatives.
Detailed impacts for each alternative, including possible right-of-way acquisition and potential relocations, will be presented at the meetings. The study is scheduled to be completed summer 2011. Construction of a preferred alternative is not enumerated at this time, although interim improvements at selected intersections along US 51 may be considered.
The public is encouraged to attend the meeting, provide input and ask questions concerning this project. Maps showing the proposed improvement alternatives will be on display. WisDOT representatives will be available to discuss the project on an individual basis.
