Information meeting May 20 for WIS 17 reconstruction

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is conducting bi-weekly construction information meetings to discuss this year’s reconstruction of WIS 17 between St. Louis Road (Phelps) and Vilas County A. Each meeting will take place in the Phelps Town Hall, 4495 Town Hall Road, Phelps.
The next meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, May 20, from 3 to 4 p.m. The contractor plans to present information regarding the construction schedule beginning at 3 p.m. The remainder of the meeting will follow an open house format. Property owners and other interested parties are encouraged to attend.
Construction improvements include:
- Reconstructing of the highway between St. Louis Road and Holiday Lodge
- Replacing the pavement and regrading the highway between Holiday Lodge and Deerskin Road
- Reconstructing of the highway between Deerskin Road and Town Hall Road
- Resurfacing the highway between Town Hall Road and Vilas County A
- Replacing the sewer and water lines from St. Louis Road to Co-Op Road
WIS 17 will be closed to through traffic from early June to mid-August when crews are working between St. Louis Road and County E. During the closure, traffic will be detoured via US 45/WIS 32 and County E. Local access to the highway will be maintained during this time.
WIS 17 will remain open to traffic when crews are working between County E and County A.
Motorists can expect to encounter flagging operations. Construction is scheduled for completion in
November 2009.
