May 21, 2009
Daniel Malm, a driver examiner at the Wausau Division of Motor Vehicles' Customer Service Center,
recently received the Driver License Examiner of the Year Award presented by the American
Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA). There are approximately 200 driver examiners
statewide and Malm was selected as the top examiner.
A certified driver examiner since 1998, Malm has been with the DMV Bureau of Field Services
for 20 years and is an expert on driver exams and skills tests. He also serves as a trainer and
mentor to new driver examiners. DMV North Central Region Manager Jill Hjelsand notes, "Dan is
extremely willing to share his knowledge with his co-workers. He has a wonderful demeanor and
demonstrates a great deal of patience when dealing with skills test customers of all ages. We
receive many positive comments about Malm from skills test customers. We are lucky to have him."
Additionally, Dan is the Regional Traffic Safety Representative for Wisconsin's North Central
Region. He takes an active role in traffic safety by attending traffic safety conferences and
assisting the Division of State Patrol with customer surveys and traffic safety campaigns. He has
also served as a Traffic Safety School Instructor at North Central Technical College since 1997.
