Stage 1 of I-39 work in Columbia County completed for the season

May 21, 2009

The first stage of the I-39 construction project in Columbia County has been completed as scheduled. All six lanes are open to traffic for the Memorial Day weekend and through the summer.

Crews began working in February to replace 3.71 miles of pavement and install median safety walls on the route between Madison and Wisconsin Dells, one of the busiest stretches of interstate highway in Wisconsin. Lanes were restricted during the project. The second phase of the project will begin in September.

Motorists can get up-to-the-minute travel information by either dialing 511 or going to the 511 Web site offered by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. The 511 Web site provides travelers with traffic and road information on Wisconsin’s main highways, including the interstate system.
