Section of Nicolet Trail in Oconto County now open to ATVs

May 22, 2009

Cooperation cited as reason for opening in time for Memorial Day holiday

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) NE Region in Green Bay is pleased to announce the section of the Nicolet State Trail south of Townsend in Oconto County that had been closed to ATVs is now officially open to ATVs, bicyclists, and pedestrians. That portion runs along the WIS 32 corridor from County T through Townsend and north to the Forest County line.

WisDOT’s Northeast Region Director Mike Berg said, “We are very pleased to get this part of the trail open to ATVs in time for Memorial Day. It did take cooperation between the US Forest Service, Wisconsin DNR, Oconto County, and other groups to make this happen, but we did make it happen.”

Berg added everyone using the trail should remember to be safe, courteous, and remain alert for other users.
