WIS 11 project in Racine County scheduled to start mid-June

May 22, 2009

As part of his ongoing “Grow Wisconsin” initiative to invest in Wisconsin’s infrastructure and stimulate our state’s economy, Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $3 million project to improve 2.4 miles of WIS 11 (State Street/Durand Avenue) from Main Street to the Burlington Bypass in Racine County.

Construction is scheduled to begin in mid-June. The project will include pavement replacement and the installation of traffic signals at the intersection of WIS 11 and County W. The improvements will provide a smoother driving surface and enhance safety at the intersection.

Staged construction and a detour route will be utilized during construction. The staged construction will be between Main Street and Larkspur Lane. WIS 11 will be closed to through traffic between Larkspur Lane and the Burlington Bypass. The detour route will be via WIS 142 (Main Street/Bushnell Road) to the Burlington Bypass. Local traffic will be provided access to their driveways.

The contractor, James Peterson Sons, Inc., is scheduled to complete the project by early October, weather permitting.

80 percent of the project will be paid with federal transportation funds; while the remaining 20 percent will be paid with state transportation funds.
