Governor Doyle approves $824,000 for WIS 153 in Marathon County

May 22, 2009

Project advanced through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

As part of national efforts to create jobs and provide immediate economic benefits to Wisconsin and the country, Governor Jim Doyle has signed a $824,000 contract to improve 6.2 miles of WIS 153 between Crooked Lake Road and the Shawano County line in Marathon County. The project was advanced using funds provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

"Wisconsin is helping to lead the way to economic recovery by putting people to work quickly on projects that improve the state’s transportation infrastructure,” Governor Doyle said.

American Asphalt of Mosinee is the prime contractor of the project. Crews will resurface the highway with new asphalt.

Construction on the project will begin May 26 and is scheduled for completion by July.

During construction, WIS 153 will remain open to traffic. Crews will use flagging operations to guide traffic through the construction zone.
