Governor Doyle approves $4 million for WIS 64 in St. Croix County

May 29, 2009

Project advanced through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

As part of national efforts to create jobs and provide immediate economic benefits to Wisconsin and the country, Governor Jim Doyle has signed a $4.7 million contract to improve six miles of WIS 64 between New Richmond and Connorsville Road in St. Croix County. The project was advanced using funds provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

“Wisconsin is helping to lead the way to economic recovery by putting people to work quickly on projects that improve the state’s transportation infrastructure,” Governor Doyle said.

Monarch Paving, a division of Mathy, Inc., is the prime contractor of the project. Construction includes resurfacing the roadway, replacing the bridge of the Willow River and upgrading the WIS 64/County T intersection to provide for a smoother and safer ride for motorists.

Construction on the project is scheduled to begin the week of May 31, 2009. Most of the work will be done this summer with project completion expected by early October 2009.

During construction, WIS 64 will remain open to traffic at all times with daytime-only single lane closures. The bridge will be constructed with the use of temporary signals. Crews will use flagging operations to guide traffic through the construction zone.
