WIS 59 project in Jefferson County to begin June 8
June 2, 2009
Project advanced through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA)
As part of national efforts to create jobs and provide immediate economic benefits to Wisconsin and the country, Governor Jim Doyle has signed $3.69 million in contracts to improve eight miles of WIS 59 in Jefferson County including the Village of Palmyra. The project was advanced using funds provided by the ARRA.
“Wisconsin is helping to lead the way to economic recovery by putting people to work quickly on projects that improve the state’s transportation infrastructure,” Governor Doyle said.
B.R. Amon & Sons, Inc. is the prime contractor of the project. Construction includes resurfacing the roadway between Whitewater and Palmyra and the urban reconstruction of Maple Street, Palmyra.
Construction is scheduled to begin the week of June 8, 2009. Work is expected to be completed October 2009. During construction WIS 59 will be closed to through-traffic (open to local traffic).
The signed detour route will utilize US 12 and WIS 106.
