June 10, 2009
Trail available to ATV’s, snowmobiles, bicyclists, and hikers
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) NE Regional Office is announcing a dedication event scheduled for the Nicolet State Recreational Trail. The event is being organized by the Red Arrow Snowmobile ATV Club, Inc. and is open to the public.
Event: Nicolet State Recreational Trail Dedication/Grand Opening
Date: Friday, June 19, 2009
Time: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Location: Town of Townsend Town Hall, Hwy 32, downtown Townsend, WI
Legislators invited to attend the event include US Congressman Steve Kagen, State Senator Jim Holperin, and State Representative Jeff Mursau. Speaking on behalf of WisDOT is NE Region Director Michael J. Berg.
In Oconto County, the Nicolet State Recreational Trail is now open to ATV’s May through October, bicyclists and hikers year round, and snowmobilers during the winter. The Townsend section that recently opened completes a gap in the trail that now runs from Green Valley in Shawano to Laona, a distance of about 45 miles.
Completing the trail was a five-year cooperative effort on the part of WisDOT, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, US Forest Service, Oconto County, the town of Townsend, and the Red Arrow Snowmobile ATV Club, Inc. Representatives from these organizations have been invited to participate in the dedication.
