Work on WIS 167 in Ozaukee and Washington counties scheduled to begin June 29
June 24, 2009
As part of his ongoing “Grow Wisconsin” initiative to invest in Wisconsin’s infrastructure and stimulate our state’s economy, Governor Jim Doyle has approved an $1.3 million project to improve the intersection of WIS 167 (Mequon Road) and Wausaukee Road in Ozaukee and Washington counties.
The work is scheduled to begin the week of June 29. This project will reconstruct the existing intersection to include traffic signals, additional left-turn lanes, a dedicated through bike lane and a handicap accessible sidewalk. The improvements will increase pedestrian and bike access, and enhance safety.
The project will be constructed in stages to maintain traffic on Mequon Road. Wausaukee Road will be closed in stages, extending about 700 feet from the intersection. Northbound Wausaukee Road will be closed for approximately four weeks during the first stage of construction. Additionally, southbound Wausaukee will be closed for four weeks during stage two. A local detour will maintain access to Wausaukee Road.
The contractor, James Peterson Sons, Inc. is scheduled to complete the project by November, weather permitting.
80 percent of the project will be paid with federal transportation funds; the remaining 20 percent will be paid with state transportation funds. The project also includes some local funding.
