New US 10 west alignment, I-39 interchange opens to traffic
June 29, 2009
Crews opened US 10, between I-39 and WIS 34 north, in western Portage County today, June 29.
The new highway alignment includes:
- A system-to-system interchange with I-39, located just north of the Portage County X overpass. The new interchange will provide free-flow access to new US 10.
- A 65 mph, four-lane divided freeway between the new I-39 interchange and WIS 34 north.
- A bridge over the Wisconsin River.
- An overpass at Portage County E.
- An interchange with WIS 34 north.
Motorists can expect to encounter daytime, weekday lane closures on I-39 in the Stevens Point area as crews modify signs. These lane closures are expected to occur through Thursday, July 2.
The new section of US 10 is part of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s project to expand 31 miles of US 10 into a four-lane, divided highway between WIS 13 near Marshfield to I-39, north of Stevens Point. The entire project is scheduled for completion in 2012.
