Governor Doyle approves $1.5 million project at Burlington Municipal Airport
July 10, 2009
Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $1,498,685 project to reconstruct runway 11/29, its parallel taxiway, and apron at the Burlington Municipal Airport. The Governor’s action releases $22,342 in state funds to help complete the project. The city of Burlington is contributing $22,343, and the Federal Aviation Administration is providing $849,000. Another $605,000 is coming from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
According to Wendy Hottenstein, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the project will reconstruct badly deteriorated pavements that have completed their useful life.
Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2009 and should be completed by July 2009. The airport will be closed during the construction operations.
Facilities at the Burlington Municipal Airport include a 4,300-foot paved runway and 2,477-foot turf airstrip. There are 70 aircraft based at the airport and over 55,000 aircraft take-offs and landings each year.
