Governor Doyle approves $286,835 for projects at Baraboo-Wisconsin Dells Airport

July 10, 2009

Governor Jim Doyle has approved two projects totaling $286,835 at the Baraboo-Wisconsin Dells Municipal Airport.  For one project, the Governor’s action releases $40,000 in state funds to design a 200-foot runway extension.  The city of Baraboo will contribute the remaining $10,000 for the project.

For the second project, the Governor’s action releases $5,921 to design an apron reconstruction project.  The city of Baraboo is also contributing $5,921, and the Federal Aviation Administration is providing $224,993.

According to Kim Kaarto, airport engineering specialist with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the projects will reconstruct deteriorating pavement, and provide more usable pavement for aircraft operations.

Design work for the projects will be completed this summer, with construction to be bid later this year or in early 2010.

Facilities at the Baraboo-Wisconsin Dells Airport include a 4,795-foot paved runway and 2,740-foot turf airstrip that together accommodate some 34,000 take-offs and landings each year.
