Governor approves $92,095 project at Solon Springs Municipal Airport
July 10, 2009
Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $92,095 project for engineering services at the Solon Springs Municipal Airport. The Governor’s action releases $2,302 in state funds for the project. The town and village of Solon Springs are contributing $2,303, and the Federal Aviation Administration is providing $87,490.
According to Stacey Miller, airport engineering specialist with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the project will provide airport users with a public access building at the airport which will include a pilot’s lounge, an operations room, bathrooms and office space for the state Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
The northern office of the DNR is one of the largest users of the airport. The DNR bases its aircraft and equipment at the airport for reconnaissance and fire-fighting flights.
The project is scheduled to begin planning and design in summer 2009, and should be completed by fall of 2010.
Facilities at the Solon Springs Municipal Airport include a 3,100-foot paved runway. The
airport accommodates some 3,000 aircraft take-offs and landings each year.
