July 10, 2009
Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $315,790 project to provide services at the J. Douglas Bake
Memorial Airport in Oconto. The Governor’s action releases $7,895 in state funds to procure
and install an aircraft fueling facility. The city and county of Oconto together are
contributing another $7,895, and the Federal Aviation Administration is providing $300,000.
According to Kim Kaarto, airport engineering specialist with the Wisconsin Department of
Transportation, the project will be designed this summer, bid in the fall, and installed in 2010.
Facilities at J. Douglas Bake Memorial Airport include a 3,200-foot paved runway and the
1,845-foot turf airstrip. There are some 12,370 aircraft take-offs and landings at the
airport each year.
