Governor Doyle approves $1 million for US 51 in Lincoln County
July 16, 2009
Project advanced through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
As part of national efforts to create jobs and provide immediate economic benefits to Wisconsin and the country, Governor Jim Doyle has signed a $1 million contract to improve four bridges on US 51 between Merrill and Tomahawk in Lincoln County. The project was advanced using funds provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
“Wisconsin is helping to lead the way to economic recovery by putting people to work quickly on projects that improve the state’s transportation infrastructure,” Governor Doyle said.
C & L Contracting of Gillett is the prime contractor for the project. Crews will repaint and perform routine maintenance to the northbound and southbound bridges over WIS 64 and the Wisconsin River.
Construction is scheduled to begin on July 27 with completion scheduled in early November 2009.
During construction, US 51 will remain open to traffic. Motorists may encounter lane closures in and around the work zone.
