July 17, 2009
Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $2,108,578 project to enhance security and upgrade electronic monitoring at the Outagamie County Regional Airport, in Appleton. The Governor’s action releases $52,714 in state funds towards the project, and Outagamie County is contributing $42,715. The Federal Aviation Administration is providing $2,003,149. Senator Herb Kohl and Rep. Steve Kagen have been instrumental in securing federal funds for this airport.
According to Andrew Trimble, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the project will provide additional monitoring capabilities to airport security personnel and will improve emergency response time.
The project is expected to begin in the summer of 2009 and should be completed by late fall.
The Outagamie County Regional Airport is home to 52 single-engine, 13 multi-engine and 4 jet
aircraft, and is served by four airlines. All together, there are nearly 50,000 take-offs and
landings at the airport each year.
