Governor Doyle approves $157,895 project at Crandon Municipal Airport
July 17, 2009
Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $157,895 project for design and construction at the Crandon Municipal Airport. The Governor’s action releases $3,947 in state funds to design and construct the first phase of a perimeter fence. The City of Crandon is contributing $3,948 and the Federal Aviation Administration is providing $150,000.
According to Matt Malicki, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the project will enhance airport safety. The fence will prevent unauthorized vehicles from entering the airfield area.
The project is scheduled to begin in July 2009 and should be completed by the end of August 2009.
The Crandon Municipal Airport consists of one asphalt runway, 3,100 feet in length, an apron, connecting taxiway and a hangar area. Four single-engine and one multi-engine aircraft are based at the airport, and approximately 4,400 take-offs and landings occur each year.
