Governor Doyle announces $3 million for projects at Rhinelander/Oneida County Airport
July 17, 2009
Governor Jim Doyle has approved $3,098,798 for projects to reconstruct taxiways at the
Rhinelander/Oneida County Airport. The Governor’s action releases $21,173 in state for the projects
and the City of Rhinelander and Oneida County are contributing another $21,173. The Federal
Aviation Administration is providing $3,056,452, of which $2,251,876 comes by way of the American
Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
According to Gayle Stearn, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of
Transportation, the projects involve reconstructing taxiways “A,” “B” and “D,” which are over 25
years old and are too worn out to be repaired.
The project is scheduled to begin in July 2009 and should be completed by spring 2010.
The Rhinelander-Oneida County Airport is a commercial service airport, consisting of two runways, associated taxiways, general aviation and commercial service aprons, terminal building, and other buildings and parking areas. Nearly three dozen aircraft are based at the airport, which handles some 36,000 passengers annually.
