Governor Jim Doyle approves US 10 improvements in Wood and Portage counties

July 17, 2009

As part of his “Grow Wisconsin” initiative to invest in Wisconsin’s infrastructure and stimulate our state’s economy, Governor Jim Doyle recently signed a $25 million contract to construct 5.5 miles of US 10 between Wood County N and Long Road in Wood and Portage counties.

Mashuda Contractors of Princeton is the prime contractor for the project. Crews will construct a new four-lane freeway. The project includes overpasses at Portage County G and Portage County O and a new interchange with WIS 34 south. Other changes include some local road access modifications and closures.

Construction began July 16 and is scheduled for completion by November 2011.

Crews are constructing US 10 on a new alignment. No impact to existing US 10 is expected until 2011. Motorists can expect some minor disruptions in the local road system adjacent to the project. Crews plan to detour WIS 34 between WIS 66 (formerly County P) and existing US 10 in summer 2011.

80 percent of the project will be paid with federal transportation funds; the remaining 20 percent will be paid with state transportation funds.
