Work is slated to begin July 27 on WIS 31 project in Kenosha County

July 20, 2009

As part of his ongoing “Grow Wisconsin” initiative to invest in Wisconsin’s infrastructure and stimulate our state’s economy, Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $1.9 million project to improve WIS 31 in Kenosha County.

Work is scheduled to begin the week of July 27 to modify the WIS 50, WIS 158 and 45th Street intersections along WIS 31. The project will reduce congestion and alleviate weaving. The reconfigured safety islands will allow three lanes of traffic to continue through these intersections in both directions along WIS 31.

The intersections will remain open to traffic during construction; however, trucks will not be allowed to make right turns during stage one. A detour will be set up to accommodate this turning movement. The detour will route trucks seeking to make right turns at these intersections via County H.

The contractor, A. W. Oakes & Sons, Inc. is scheduled to complete the project by late November.

A combination of federal and state funds will pay for the project.
