WIS 83 project - from WIS 167 to Monroe Avenue - to start July 29 in Washington County

July 28, 2009

As part of his ongoing “Grow Wisconsin” initiative to invest in Wisconsin’s infrastructure and stimulate our state’s economy, Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $629,000 project to improve 4.0 miles of WIS 83 from WIS 167 to Monroe Avenue in Washington County.

Construction is scheduled to begin July 29. Work will include resurfacing the pavement and upgrading beam guards and beam guard end terminals. The improvements will provide a smoother driving surface and increase safety.

The roadway will remain open during construction; however, traffic will be reduced to one lane, utilizing flagging during daylight hours.

The contractor, Payne and Dolan, Inc. is scheduled to complete the project by October 15, weather permitting.

80 percent of the project will be paid with federal transportation funds; the remaining 20 percent will be paid with state funding.
