Governor Doyle approves $2.7 million for WIS 77 improvements in Sawyer and Ashland counties

July 29, 2009

Project advanced through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

As part of national efforts to create jobs and provide immediate economic benefits to Wisconsin and the country, Governor Jim Doyle has signed a $2.7 million contract to improve nine miles of WIS 77 from Hollywood Road in Sawyer County to Day Dam Road in Ashland County. The project was advanced using funds provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

“Wisconsin is helping to lead the way to economic recovery by putting people to work quickly on projects that improve the state’s transportation infrastructure,” Governor Doyle said.

Monarch Paving is the prime contractor. The road maintenance project consists of milling and resurfacing four inches of the roadway surface.

Construction on the project is scheduled to begin Aug. 3, 2009 and completed by Sept. 22, 2009.

During construction, WIS 77 will remain open to traffic at all times with the use of flagging operations.
