July 30, 2009
Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $157,895 project to fund design at the Fort Atkinson Municipal Airport. The Governor’s action releases $3,947 in state funds to design taxiway construction. The City of Fort Atkinson is contributing $3,948 and the Federal Aviation Administration is providing $150,000.
According to Kim Kaarto, airport engineering specialist with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the project will provide design engineering and production of plans and specifications for taxiway construction at the airport.
The design will start this summer, with bidding early in 2010 and construction to follow.
The Fort Atkinson Municipal Airport is located about three miles northeast of Fort
Atkinson. It has one paved runway, 3,800 feet long, and access taxiways, paved apron and
hangar areas. There are 26 aircraft based at the airport, with about 10,000 take-offs and
landings each year.
