I-94 Badger Interchange expansion project set to begin Aug. 10
August 6, 2009
Project advanced through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
As part of national efforts to create jobs and provide immediate economic benefits to Wisconsin and the country, Governor Jim Doyle has signed $43 million contract to expand I-94 between the Badger Interchange and County N, Dane County. The project was advanced using funds provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). It represents the largest transportation-related ARRA project in south-central Wisconsin.
“Wisconsin is helping to lead the way to economic recovery by putting people to work quickly on projects that improve the state’s transportation infrastructure,” Governor Doyle said.
The project, scheduled for completion November 2011, includes highway expansion from four to six lanes, bridge replacements, and median safety wall installation.
Workers will begin the construction of temporary roadways and bridges Aug. 10. This initial stage of work is scheduled to be completed late November 2009. The project’s second stage is expected to begin early 2010. The third and final stage is projected to begin early 2011.
Four lanes of traffic will remain open at all times during the project. Speeds will be reduced to 55 mph in the work zone.
Zignego Company Inc. of Waukesha is the prime contractor.
