August 10, 2009
Project advanced through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
As part of national efforts to create jobs and provide immediate economic benefits to Wisconsin and the country, Governor Jim Doyle has signed a $643,000 contract to improve 4.5 miles of US 45 between Winchester and New London and the intersection of Fulton Street and Hillcrest Drive in Waupaca. The project was advanced using funds provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
“Wisconsin is helping to lead the way to economic recovery by putting people to work quickly on projects that improve the state’s transportation infrastructure,” Governor Doyle said.
Northeast Asphalt of Appleton is the prime contractor for the project. Crews will resurface US 45 with new asphalt. The intersection of Hillcrest Drive and Fulton Street is moving 400 feet to the east to improve safety.
Construction on US 45 and WIS 49 is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 17. Completion is scheduled for mid-September 2009.
During construction, US 45 and Fulton Street will remain open to traffic. Crews will use flagging operations to guide traffic through the construction zone. The intersection of WIS 49 and Hillcrest Drive will be closed during construction.
