Governor Doyle approves $442,300 project at Lancaster Municipal Airport

August 20, 2009

Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $442,300 project to create an airport layout plan and acquire five parcels at the Lancaster Municipal Airport.  The Governor’s action releases $11,946 in state funds to develop the airport planning document and acquire property for future airport development.  The city of Lancaster is contributing another $11,946 and the Federal Aviation Administration is providing $418,408.

According to Stacey Miller, airport engineering specialist with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the project will create the airport’s first airport layout plan, a planning document necessary to receive Airport Improvement Program funds.  The project will also include surveys, appraisals, negotiations and purchase of five parcels adjacent to the terminal area for future airport development.

The project has begun, with the plan, property surveys and appraisals already completed.  Acquisition of the five parcels will be completed by fall 2009.

Lancaster Municipal Airport has one 3,850-foot asphalt runway located approximately 400 feet east and parallel to USH 61.  There are nine single-engine aircraft based at the airport and approximately 7,100 take-offs and landings occur there each year.
