Governor Doyle approves $640,000 project at Manitowish Waters Airport
August 20, 2009
Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $640,000 project to construct hangars at the Manitowish Waters Airport. The Governor’s action releases $4,158 in state funds to build a new airport lease airplane hangar at the airport. The town of Manitowish Waters is contributing $27,843, and the Federal Aviation Administration is providing $607,999.
According to Craig Butler, airport engineering specialist with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the project will add revenue to the airport. The revenue will be used to offset the airport’s operating costs.
The project is scheduled to be completed by October 2009.
Manitowish Waters Airport has two runways; one paved and 3,500 feet in length. It also
includes a terminal building, and snow removal equipment/maintenance building. On average, 17
single engine aircraft are based at the airport and 3,000 take-offs and landings occur there each
year.
