Connection will not affect Niagara Escarpment in Fond du Lac County
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region in Green Bay is announcing that it has narrowed the alternatives for connecting US 151 with WIS 23 in Fond du Lac County. The region is no longer considering three alternatives that bisected the Niagara Escarpment or “ledge” area in east central Fond du Lac County.
According to NE Region Director Michael Berg, “We are continuing to review the final two alternatives, but decided based on an extensive analysis that we conduct on all our projects, it would be best to keep this connection in the vicinity of where it currently exists.”
Berg added, “We are making this announcement now since there has been some public interest in our decision to consider crossing the ledge area. A final alternative will be selected for this interchange by this winter.”
WisDOT is currently mapping WIS 151 for eventual conversion to a freeway, including a future free-flow interchange for WIS 151 and US 23. No construction funding has been scheduled and future implementation of the interchange would depend on safety issues and capacity needs.
