Governor Doyle approves $6,500,000 for project at Dane County Regional Airport

Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $6,500,000 project to reconstruct the north portion of Taxiway A at the Dane County Regional Airport in Madison.  The Governor’s action releases $384,000 in state funds for the project and Dane County will contribute another $384,000.  The Federal Aviation Administration will provide the remaining $5,699,118 under the Airport Improvement Program.

According to David Montesinos, project manager with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the taxiway is over 20 years old and has reached the point where planned reconstruction is advisable.

The project began in July 2009 and should be completed by year-end.

Dane County Airport consists of three paved runways, parallel taxiways, aircraft parking aprons and ramps, terminal building, parking facilities and FAA control tower.  Currently, five airlines fly passengers non-stop to 14 destinations and connecting hub airports.  In 2008, 740,000 people flew out of Dane County Regional Airport and cargo transported totaled 12,260,000 pounds.
