Construction to Begin after Labor Day on WIS 25 in Buffalo County
September 1, 2009
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northwest Region in Eau Claire is announcing that construction will begin after Labor Day on WIS 25 between Nelson, Wisconsin and Wabasha, Minnesota. The $12.4 million project will replace three bridges and widen another along that route.
Throughout the month of September and October, WIS 25 will be limited to one lane while crews work to widen one of the structures. Contractors will also be working on building temporary bypasses for the other three structures. Temporary traffic signals will be installed to guide vehicles through the work zone. Next spring, the second half of the bridge widening will occur, but two lanes of traffic will be maintained on that structure. The other three structures will be completely removed and traffic will operate on temporary structures and bypasses.
The project is scheduled for completion by December 2010. WisDOT will be holding a public information meeting later this month to discuss the project and traffic impacts in more detail.
80 percent of the project will be paid with federal transportation funds, the remaining 20 percent will be paid with state funds. Approximately $1 million of the project is being funded by the federal Highways For Life grant program.
