Governor Doyle approves $7,225,000 for projects at La Crosse Municipal Airport
September 8, 2009
Governor Jim Doyle has approved $7,225,000 for two projects at the La Crosse Municipal Airport. The Governor’s action releases $665,000 in state funds for terminal building improvements and the first phase of a taxiway construction project. The city of La Crosse is contributing $290,000 and the Federal Aviation Administration is providing $6,270,000.
According to Wendy Hottenstein, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, one project will provide restroom facilities and additional seating for passengers after they have cleared the security checkpoint.
The second project will dredge and fill the initial phase of constructing Taxiway F north at the airport. The project will reduce the potential for runway incursions by having the taxiway for Runway 18/36 on the same side as the terminal building so aircraft don’t have to cross the main runway to taxi to and from the north end of the runway.
The projects are scheduled to begin in summer 2009 and should be completed by 2012.
The La Crosse Municipal Airport is located four miles north of the city of La Crosse on French
Island in the middle of the Mississippi River. There are 89 aircraft based at the airport,
which has three runways that accommodate approximately 50,000 take-offs and landings annually.
