September 8, 2009
Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $35,310 project to design the upgrade lighting on runway 1/19 at the Rice Lake Regional Airport. The Governor’s action releases $883 in state funds for the project and the City of Rice Lake is contributing another $883. The Federal Aviation Administration is providing $33,544
According to David Montesinos, project manager with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the project will improve safety for pilots landing at night or during inclement weather by making the runway lighting brighter and easier to see on approach to the airport.
The project is scheduled to begin in July 2009 and should be completed by August 2009.
Facilities at the Rice Lake Regional Airport include a 6,700 primary runway and a 3,500-foot
crosswind runway. The airport accommodates 28,000 aircraft take-offs and landings each year.
