Governor Doyle approves $3,700,000 project at Central Wisconsin Airport
September 8, 2009
Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $3,700,000 project to make improvements and plan for a new terminal at the Central Wisconsin Airport, near Mosinee. The Governor’s action releases $92,500 in state funds to help complete the project. Marathon and Portage counties are contributing an additional $92,500, and the Federal Aviation Administration is providing $3,515,000.
According to Eric Johnson, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the project will widen the safety area for Runway 17/35 and pave the taxiways in the T-hangar area at the airport. The project also includes Phase 2 work on the proposed mid-field terminal for the airport. This includes the final environmental assessment and develops a preliminary design for the site.
The project is scheduled to begin in August 2009 and should be completed by January 2012.
The Central Wisconsin Airport includes two paved runways, a control tower, hangars and a 46,000
square-foot terminal featuring a five-gate concourse, restaurant-bar, car rental, gift shop and
miscellaneous other amenities.
