Governor Doyle approves $3.6 million for US 8 improvements in Polk County
September 8, 2009
Project advanced through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
As part of national efforts to create jobs and provide immediate economic benefits to Wisconsin and the country, Governor Jim Doyle has signed two contracts worth $3.6 million to improve nine miles of US 8 from WIS 35 to the Apple River Bridge and to repaint the Interstate Park Bridge under US 8. The project was advanced using funds provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
“Wisconsin is helping to lead the way to economic recovery by putting people to work quickly on projects that improve the state’s transportation infrastructure,” Governor Doyle said.
Monarch Paving is the prime contractor for the paving project. The road maintenance project consists of milling and resurfacing four inches of the roadway surface. Crews from Mill Coatings, Inc. will be painting the bridge under US 8 during the same time frame.
Construction on the project is scheduled to begin Sept. 14, 2009 and completed by Oct. 2, 2009. During construction, US 8 will be restricted to a single lane with the use of flagging operations.
