I-39 work zone from Dane to Columbia County set to re-open Sept. 9
September 9, 2009
Delays expected during peak weekend hours
The second stage of construction on I-39 from the Dane County line to WIS 60 in Columbia County, one of the busiest stretches of highway in Wisconsin, will begin Sept. 9. Crews will be working to replace 3.71 miles of pavement and install median safety walls.
Two lanes of traffic will remain open in each direction. Speeds will be reduced to 55 mph in the work zone.
Motorists should anticipate delays during peak hours, particularly westbound (northbound) traffic on Friday afternoons and eastbound (southbound) traffic on Sunday afternoons. Alternate routes are recommended.
The project is scheduled for completion Nov. 19, 2009.
The project’s first stage ran from Feb. 23 to May 22. No work was conducted between Memorial Day and Labor Day to allow all six lanes of the interstate to be open during the summer months.
Motorists can get up-to-the-minute travel information by either dialing 511 or going to the 511 web site, which provides travelers with traffic and road information on Wisconsin’s main highways, including the interstate system.
