Public hearing Sept. 29 for US 10 in Portage County

September 10, 2009

WisDOT seeking testimony regarding proposed official mapping of future US 10 alignment

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is conducting a public hearing for the US 10 corridor study between I-39 and Portage County B, east of the city of Stevens Point. The purpose of the hearing is to obtain testimony regarding the proposed official mapping of the future US 10 corridor.

The hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., in the gymnasium of Bannach Elementary School, 5400 Walter Street, Stevens Point. A brief presentation is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.

WisDOT selected a preferred alternative for a future US 10 alignment and completed the environmental documentation necessary to begin the official mapping process. The official mapping will preserve the land for use as a future location for US 10. The preferred alternative begins with an interchange at I-39 between Portage County HH and Porter Road, continues east for nine miles and connects with US 10 just north of Lake Road (view map of preferred alternative).

Local officials, property owners, and other interested parties are invited to attend the hearing. WisDOT representatives will be available to address questions and a court reporter will be present to record formal testimony.

An Environmental Assessment (EA) of the proposed action can be viewed at the village of Plover Library, 2151 Roosevelt Drive, Plover, or the Portage County Library, 1001 Main Street, Stevens Point.

Citizens who are unable to attend the meeting, or would like more information, may contact Michael O’Meara at (715) 421-8313, or in writing to 1681 2nd Avenue South, Wisconsin Rapids, WI 54495-4768. Citizens who are deaf or hard of hear and who require an interpreter may request one by contacting Michael O’Meara at least three working days prior to the meeting via the Wisconsin Telecommunications Relay system (dialing 711).
