September 14, 2009
As part of his “Grow Wisconsin” initiative to invest in Wisconsin’s infrastructure and stimulate our state’s economy, Governor Jim Doyle recently signed a $469,000 contract to improve 1.7 miles of US 51 between Front Street and 3rd Avenue in Minocqua and Woodruff. Construction is scheduled to begin Tuesday, Sept. 22.
Pitlik and Wick of Rhinelander is the prime contractor for the project. Crews will mill and pave the highway. Construction is scheduled for completion by the end of October 2009.
During construction, motorists can expect to encounter lane closures in each direction on US 51 - between Front Street and WIS 47 - from 6 a.m. Mondays to noon on Fridays.
100 percent of the project will be paid with state transportation funds.
