Governor Doyle approves $1,456,487 project at Outagamie County Airport
September 15, 2009
Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $1,456,487 project to provide additional aircraft boarding capability at the Outagamie County Regional Airport, in Appleton. The Governor’s action releases $36,637 in state funds towards the project, and Outagamie County is contributing $36,638. The Federal Aviation Administration is providing $1,392,212. U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl and U.S. Rep. Steve Kagen were instrumental in securing federal funds for this project.
According to Andrew Trimble, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the project will provide an additional passenger boarding bridge, which has been designed to accommodate larger aircraft serving the airport. Modifications to the main terminal are required to provide access to the new boarding bridge, so that it complies with the Americans With Disabilities Act.
The project will also update the airport’s master plan, a document that provides guidance to the county for implementing their capital improvement program in an organized and efficient manner.
The project is expected to begin in the summer of 2009 and should be completed by the end of the
year.
The Outagamie County Regional Airport is home to 52 single-engine, 13 multi-engine and 4 jet
aircraft, and is served by four airlines. All together, there are nearly 50,000 take-offs and
landings at the airport each year.
