Governor Doyle approves $10,661,239 project at Austin Straubel International Airport
September 15, 2009
Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $10,661,239 project for planning, design and construction at the Austin Straubel International Airport, in Green Bay. The Governor’s action releases $2,584,663 in state funds to construct a new snow removal equipment building and a sand storage building. Brown County is contributing $1,919,558 to the project and the Federal Aviation Administration is providing $6,157,018.
According to Matt Malicki, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the relocation of the existing equipment building and sand storage facilities will allow for better use of the land near the terminal building and replace an aging, undersized building. Included in this project are the site entrance road, the concrete drive areas around the building and a snow removal vehicle fueling facility.
The project is scheduled to begin in October 2009 and should be completed by October 2010.
Austin Straubel International Airport is located southwest of the city of Green Bay. It is
a primary service air carrier airport, with two concrete runways, 7,700 feet and 8,200 feet in
length. The airport has a modern terminal building providing passenger services to the
traveling public. There are 115 aircraft based at the airport, and approximately 70,500
take-offs and landings occur each year.
