Lane markings to change at Goerke’s Corners in Waukesha County

September 30, 2009

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is announcing there will be changes in lane marking and some operational modifications on I-94 eastbound at Goerke’s Corners in Waukesha that will require partial freeway closings the weekend of Oct. 9 - 12.

The work will start at 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, weather permitting, and will require closing the left and middle lanes, with traffic reduced to using only the right lane, while the freeway surface is milled down to its concrete base and partially resurfaced with asphalt. On Saturday morning, Oct. 10, traffic will then be switched to the inside lane and the remaining lane will be milled and partially resurfaced. That work should be completed by 9 a.m. and full traffic access restored.

Starting at 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, the left and middle lanes will be closed as the final asphalt paving takes place. Once that is finished, those lanes will be opened and the remaining lane will be paved.

The lanes will then be restriped in such a way that there will no longer be a lane drop next to the left lane, as exists now. Also, those entering I-94 at the interchange will be expected to merge, as opposed to entering the freeway in their own exclusive lane as they currently do.

Sparked by the increase in traffic at the interchange since it was first constructed, the modifications should improve operations and provide some safety enhancements.

The Wisconsin State Patrol will be on hand to assist in the lane closures and other work.

As with all construction work, motorists are asked to slow down and be aware of the potential for lane changes. Motorists are also reminded to slow down and that fines double in work zones.
