Traffic improvements on WIS 44/US 41 scheduled to start Oct. 5 in Winnebago County
October 1, 2009
Off-ramp improvements will provide added capacity at busy interchange
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region is announcing that work is tentatively scheduled to begin Monday, Oct. 5 on the construction of additional left turn lanes on the US 41 northbound and southbound off-ramps to WIS 44 in Oshkosh. The project also includes the construction of a crash investigation site on the US 41 southbound off-ramp to WIS 44. The $314,000 project should be completed by early November.
Traffic impacts during the project include:
- Left shoulder closures on both off-ramps to WIS 44 for construction of added left turn lane.
- Right shoulder closure on southbound off-ramp to WIS 44 for construction of crash investigation site.
- Ramp lane widths will be narrowed to 11 feet.
- Overnight ramp closures.
- Pavement repairs on WIS 44 for east and westbound traffic which will include lane closures.
The extra left turn lanes will add capacity for motorists exiting US 41 and getting on to WIS 44. While the upgrade helps drivers year-round, it will significantly improve the movement of traffic during major events, such as EAA AirVenture and Country USA. Motorists are reminded to use caution and remain alert when driving through this or any work zone.
